Introduction

Many manufacturers are confused by the interaction of the RTTE directive with the LVD and EMC directives and are concerned about how other newer directives like RoHS and EuP affect compliance of their products. This course will help you put those issues into a new perspective.

Since its introduction in April 2000, compliance with the Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment Directive (R&TTE) has been required method for manufacturers wishing to market radio products on the European Market. The new Directive was introduced to remove any trading barriers in Europe, with the intention of continuing to ensure that products met minimum requirements related to health and safety, EMC and the protection of the radio spectrum. As a result, the R&TTE means that it is now quicker and cheaper to gain approval than with previous directives. As manufacturers are no longer encumbered by any national differences between individual country safety requirements, the time to market for new goods has also been significantly reduced.

Course Objectives

The course will discuss the content and requirements of the RTTE Directive and its relationship with other directives such as the Low Voltage, EMC and EuP directives and the associated Harmonized Standards. It will present the background in which the RTTE Directive operates and how a manufacturer can satisfy their
obligations under this Directive. Simple means of conformity will be demonstrated which will reduce the risks of being challenged by the Market Surveillance Authorities and to enhance the reputation of your products with retailers and the public.

Course Content

At the end of the course, delegates will be able to

  • Understand the compliance options of the RTTE Directive and the
    relationships with harmonized standards and other relevant
    directives;
  • Develop a compliance strategy for their products;
  • Create technical files to assure their customers and market
    surveillance authorities of the compliance of their products with
    legal requirements.
