EuP Directive
Compliance with the 2005/32/EC Directive, also known as the Ecodesign Directive or EuP Directive, is a precondition for your entitlement to attach the CE Marking to your electrical and electronic products and offer them on the European market. After WEEE and RoHS, it is the second step in sustainable, responsible production of energy-using products (EuPs).
Given this, the directive applies to products including the following:
- Office equipment, e.g. PCs and monitors
- Household goods, e.g. dishwashers, washing machines, clothes dryers or vacuum cleaners
- Consumer electronics, e.g. televisions
- Lamps and light fixtures
- Printers, photocopiers and multi-functional devices
- Air-conditioning devices
- Cooling and refrigeration devices
Since the EuP Directive specifies only a framework and does not contain precise requirements – which, given the varying numbers of products addressed by the Directive, would be impossible – specific implementation instructions (Implementing Measures = IM) will be passed.
The IM define the aspects for each product group which you, as the manufacturer, must observe, and may also contain concrete efficiency limits, non-compliance with which may even prohibit you from placing the products on the market.
In addition, compliance with the Directive is a precondition of your authorization to place the CE Marking on your products.
