Reliability Testing

TÜV SÜD Product Service undertakes HALT (highly accelerated life testing) and HASS (highly accelerated stress screening) for manufacturers.

We have been performing HALT testing in the UK since 1995 and have acquired considerable experience in this specialist testing technique.

The intention of HALT is to rapidly improve product reliability at an early stage in a product’s life and consequently reduce costly in-field failures and warranty claims.

Throughout the HALT process, the intent is to subject the item under test to stimuli well beyond the expected field environments to determine its Operating and Destruct limits.

Any Operating and Destruct limits discovered during HALT can be used, to develop an effective Highly Accelerated Stress Screen (HASS) for manufacturing. HASS will quickly detect any process flaws or new weak links without taking significant life out of the product. The HASS process will ensure that the reliability gains achieved through HALT will be maintained in future production.

Our technical expertise and experience enables us to create meaningful HALT test programmes and assist in identifying and characterise flaws in design, in order to produce a more rugged and reliable product.

TÜV Product Service’s testing laboratory is capable of HALT testing products and components in temperatures of -100ºC to +200ºC at rates of change of temperature up to 1ºC per second.

In addition to HALT/HASS, TÜV SÜD Product Service provides a full range of testing, certification, consulting and training solutions with specific defence experience in:
