Picocells, Nanocells & Femtocells Testing
Customer demand for GSM and 3G services is still huge. Picocells, nanocells and femtocells provide network operators with a cost-effective way to upgrade their existing networks and yet still deliver good coverage and capacity to their customers, particularly in areas where coverage is very limited or difficult to achieve.
Plugged into fixed-line broadband connections, these low-power radio systems provide improved cellular signal strengths within enclosed spaces (e.g. offices, public buildings, underground car parks, train stations etc), enabling faster data downloads, and allow mobile users to use their existing mobile devices to access both data and voice services
In order to place these products on the EU market, manufacturers need to comply with the regulatory requirements of the R&TTE Directive (1999/5/EC). TÜV SÜD Product Service provides accredited regulatory testing of Picocells, Nanocells and Femtocells, either at its comprehensively equipped laboratory in Fareham, Hampshire, or at the manufacturer’s premises, a solution which allows for fast engineering support in the event of difficulties experienced during test. We offer a complete “one-stop shop” service, including RF conformance testing, EMC testing, Safety testing and Notified Body certification.
For them to be sold in the USA and Canada, these products must follow the formal regulatory certification procedures of the FCC and Industry Canada. Again, we provide a full “one-stop shop” service, including testing and 
certification. We also manage the applications on behalf of our clients where required, offering expert advice and assistance.
Should any network operator require additional testing over and above the regulatory requirements (e.g. the 3GPP standards TS25.141 and TS25.113), we can usually accommodate that testing as well.
