What are Vibration Testing and Shock Testing?
Vibration testing and shock testing are used to simulate in a controlled laboratory enviroment the extreme conditions that a product may face during use. They enable you and your customers to gain confidence in your product's performance in the field by demonstrating that it is reliable and won't let you down.
Our facilities allow us to test products up to 5 tons in accordance with the requirements of MIL STD 810, DEF STAN 00-35, RTCA DO160, BS EN 60068 to name but a few. Any test not on our UKAS scope but which is within our capability can be added quickly through our flexible schedule. This is a rare privilege granted to us by our accrediting authority.
Every effort has been made to reduce set up time for our customers with 60Hz, 400Hz, 415V and generator-fed outlets available throughout the laboratory.
Vibration
Testing
We have a range of hydraulic and electromagnetic shakers covering a frequency range of 1Hz to 3kHz with up to 150kN of thrust. In addition we can condition test samples during vibration between +71ºC and -46ºC. Unique features include the large shakers set into the floor which reduces set up time and provides a safer working environment. Large and small slip plates are available for our largest electromagnetic shakers. We can also decouple the slip table on the 150kN machine and drive the table via fixture for particularly large or long test samples.![]()

Shock Testing
The mechanical laboratory has a unique set of facilities designed to test the robustness and fragility of packaged samples and their packaging. There are several shock machines, the largest having a table size of 2.1m x 1.5m. Additionally, there is a side impact machine; compression machine, precision drop tester, and dedicated bump and bounce facilities.
