TÜV Product Service extends scope for SAR testing

TÜV Product Service extends testing scope for SAR by becoming UKAS accredited for IEC 62209-2 for Body SAR.

TÜV Product service has successfully added to their UKAS scope of accreditation, the newly published IEC test standard for Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) for wireless communication devices used in close proximity to the human body; IEC 62209-2 Edition 1.0 2010-03.

The publication of this specification allows manufacturers to demonstrate that their Wireless devices are compliant for use against the Human Body, and the specification gives clear guidance on a variety of considerations, for example the test positions for laptop computers and PDA’s.

Used in conjunction with IEC62209-1 (or EN62209-1) the SAR standard for head SAR compliance, TÜV Product service is able to offer a fully UKAS accredited service for Wireless communication devices used against the Head and Body. Network operators are already insisting that body SAR testing is performed against this newly published standard.

Until now manufacturers have typically used the American Standard OET65(C) to demonstrate Body SAR compliance, as there was no other standard available, therefore publication of this new IEC standard provides manufacturers with a much clearer route for compliance.
