TÜV SÜD: Standard average values given for range of e-cars inadequate

Munich. TÜV SÜD has developed a standard for determining the range of electrically powered cars. In a major comparative test, special-interest magazine "auto motor und sport" used the TÜV SÜD E-Car Standard, based on the TÜV SÜD E-Car Cycle (TSECC), for the first time. The result of the test, published in the current issue of the magazine (publication date 16 December), underlines that a specification of average ranges which is similar to fuel consumption figures for petrol cars is inadequate for electrically-powered vehicles and their relatively short ranges. For example, the ranges determined in the comparative test under standard conditions (23 degrees) and wintry conditions (-7 degrees) differed by over 50 per cent.
