TÜV SÜD intensifies procedure to track down quality mark counterfeiters
The European market is becoming increasingly bombarded with counterfeit products bearing fake quality marks and as a result, major safety flaws. These counterfeits cause significant financial losses for manufacturers and also generate major safety issues for consumers as statutory safety tests are not adhered to during production.
TÜV SÜD Product Service has been heavily involved in the prevention of this type of fraud for many years being a founder member of Certification Industry against Counterfeiting (CIAC), an alliance of leading international product certification organizations. This article outlines TÜV SÜD’s efforts towards establishing stricter procedures against counterfeiting along with the involvement of customs authorities for increased vigilance at borders.
