Low emission zones: Cities tighten the rules from 2010 onwards
TÜV SÜD: Retrofit technologies protect against being barred
Three years ago Germany began to restrict access to many of their city centres by introducing a low-emission-zone (LEZ) scheme whereby German cities issued green, yellow and red stickers to vehicles according to their emission class. Clearance to the city centres was only permitted to cars with a green or yellow sticker.
As from January 2010 onwards, some cities will begin to launch phase 2 of the scheme allowing only those cars displaying a green emission sticker on their windscreens into the LEZ.
TÜV SÜD experts are offering to insert retrofit technologies into many of these vehicles in order to make them eligible to run inside the LEZ. In this article they offer expert advice and tips on how to transform your vehicle into a low emission class as well as providing tips on how to overcome the expense of such conversions.
