What is your role?
I am Process improvement Specialist within TÜV responsible for establishing a continuous improvement program.
What does that involve?
My role involves working with senior managers in developing the Improvement objectives for the organization and assists them in implementing it. It means that I play various roles such as a project manager for improvement initiatives, a trainer on increasing awareness about various business techniques and also as a team member in fixing the our day to day process that are important to us.
What knowledge and skills do you need to do your job?
Experience in implementing business improvement techniques such as lean manufacturing, six sigma helps in understanding and guiding the team through the projects. However the most important skills in my view are Persistence, Motivation and Passion to improve our business. Skills are more important than the techniques because “one could learn the techniques but the skills could only be developed”.
What aspects of your role do you find the most rewarding?
The challenge of working with people from varied background and with every project having its own challenges makes it interesting and something to work towards. I feel this role helps me develop my personal and professional skills.
How has your career developed with the Company?
I started as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership Associate between TÜV, Bath University and DTI. The program provided opportunity for me to specialise in operations improvement within the business through a combination of formal learning and through implementation of projects. At the end of the program I joined as a specialist where TÜV has provided me with more experience and opportunities to develop my skills making it marketable.
What is it like working for TÜV SÜD Product Service Limited?
It is one of the most flexible organizations I have worked for, with a friendly working environment. It could be summarized by saying TÜV provides an environment that caters for varied needs with a gym and an active social group that organizes various events. I enjoy working here and it’s got a good mix of people.
