Rail Assurance and Certification Services

TÜV SÜD operates one of the largest rail consultancies in Europe. We provide wide-ranging professional technical services to rolling stock manufacturers, suppliers of equipment, leasing companies, train operating companies and infrastructure suppliers; to demonstrate safety and reliability within a modern railway network.

We are members of the Link-Up preferred supplier scheme and an ISO 9001 registered company for consultancy.

We are a Notified Body under the EMC Directive and rail interoperability Directives.

We have one of the most comprehensively equipped testing facilities in Europe. We are UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accredited (0141) and our engineers are approved for working ‘trackside’ to carry out in-situ testing.

Our range or services to the rail industry provides a number of ways to demonstrate safety, compliance, assurance and reliability. A typical assurance case may be based on evidence provided from one or more of the following activities:

Data and other information obtained from these activities is used as the basis of a technical argument or rationale to substantiate the overall claim of compliance.

We have in-depth understanding and wide experience of the demanding requirements of rail industry standards, their interpretation and application including:

• Railway Industry Association (RIA) 12/18/20
• London Underground standards, 1-222 (formerly E1027), G-222 (formerly M1027)
• Railway Group Standard GE/RT8015

Our extensive range of services and in depth knowledge means that railway rolling stock, power supplies, substations and switchgear, railway signalling, trackside equipment, Road and Rail Vehicles (RRV) and equipment rooms can all be assessed and certified to the levels required by EU legislation, regulations and industry standards.

Large infrastructure projects involving new or modified assets will require an overall assurance evidence file. Our services include guidance on the application of good engineering practices in order to ensure EMC compliance and systems reliability.
