New EMC facility launched to give retailers product confidence
TÜV Product Service, one of the world’s leading experts on product testing and certification, is launching the UK’s first ‘spot-check’ testing facility for retailers. The new Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing facility means retailers will now be able to commission this traditionally expensive service at a fraction of the cost.
By European law, electronic devices must pass EMC tests. These determine whether household electrical items, such as TVs, camcorders and games consoles, will interfere or be interfered with by other electronic devices and more importantly whether radio communications are affected.
The new facility, which will be commissioned into operation in August 2008, will be able to conduct spot-check EMC tests for approximately 50 per cent less than the current industry rate. In addition, the flexible nature of the facility means a quick overnight turnaround, rather than the customary four days, enabling retailers to get products onto the high street faster.
Authorities regularly conduct retailer inspections to ensure products meet the correct requirements. This new, cost-effective EMC facility offers retailers the secure knowledge that the products they sell are compliant.
