Introduction to the compliance requirements for the United States market

  

TÜV SÜD Product Service is running a special training course on Tuesday 31st January 2012, covering the compliance requirements for the US market, relating to equipment requiring Electrical Safety Testing & Certification for the US Workplace and FCC Radio Approval Grants for radio products.

The main course objectives will be as follows:

  • Developing a good understanding the FCC regulations and the FCC approvals process
  • Ways of selecting the appropriate compliance route
  • Preparing an application to a TCB or the FCC
  • And how to compile technical exhibits for FCC approvals

With the growth in use of radio and electronic devices for application in consumer, medical, automotive, industrial and commercial markets, there is an increasing need to ensure that those concerned with such equipment, understand the current rules, regulations and policies for entry into the United States. TÜV SÜD Product Service’s training course looks at the mandatory requirements in terms of electrical safety requirements for products used in the US workplace and FCC radio approvals into the United States.

This training session will be divided into 2 parts:

The first session will cover NRTL requirements:

Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories, or NRTLs, are third party organizations recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) under Federal code 29 CFR 1910.7 to provide product safety testing and certification services for products used in the US workplace.

The presentation will provide an overview of the testing & certification programme, The requirements for products that require ‘approval’ by a NRTL, the ongoing compliance requirements, and a practical guide to ensuring your product complies with the NRTL requirements.

The second session will cover FCC requirements:

FCC requirements and will help you understand the FCC rules to enable you to gain maximum benefits in your compliance strategy.

Practical information will be provided to enable submission of a complete application and technical documentation to a Telecommunications Certification Body (TCB) or the FCC to obtain an FCC approval.

The course will take place on Tuesday 31st January in York from 9am till 5pm. The course will be delivered by TÜV SÜD's Business Development Manager, Phil Evans and Safety Engineer, Alastair McLaughin.
